Aimed at those seeking more than the formality of a hotel or claustrophobia of a B+B, the Drifters concept is one of down to earth personal service in a location exuding natural beauty and attractions - our Inns cater for the adventurer, but without compromise.

Drifters 23 years in the ecotourism/hospitality industry has enabled us to build up a collection of Inns, Lodges and Camps, all Ideally situated from both geographical and ecological perspectives - each has been carefully selected and built to meet with our theme, "Well Priced and Superb Location - Rustic but Comfortable."

More than just accommodation, Drifters concentrate on the experience, each of our properties is designed in a manner that brings clients directly into contact with the best that the area has to offer, be it wildlife, scenery, the ocean, culture, etc. Our emphasis is always on the environment, and besides those Inns in cities, our properties all offer exquisite natural environments where clients can explore, hike, cycle, etc. or simply relax without restriction. Our commitment to conservation is paramount.

All overland tours starting in Johannesburg will depart from the Johannesburg Inn/Office at the time specified on your Tour Voucher. Situated in Northcliff, a well-established suburb of northwest Johannesburg, this beautiful thatched Inn makes for the ideal stop-over before starting or at the end of your holiday. With close proximity to shops, restaurants, banks, cinemas, highways, public transport as well as the delightful Emmarentia Dam, this Inn has an idyllic setting. Accommodation is in twin-bedded rooms, all en-suite. A lovely garden, swimming pool, shop and restaurant areavailable for guests’ convenience. Transfers to and from the Airport and elsewhere are available on request, as well as luggage storage and parking. For self-drive clients we can have your car delivered here. Day tours can be booked on arrival.

Cape Town Inn
The Drifters Cape Town Inn serves as the departure point for the Coastal Explorer and Cape Town – Victoria Falls – Johannesburg Safaris, as well as the end point of all 18-day South Africa tours. Located in Sea Point, virtually on the beach-front, this beautiful old Inn is ideally situated for access to all major attractions in the city. With 12 twin bedrooms, mostly en-suite, some sharing a bathroom, this is the perfect stopover for a few nights. Airport transfers on request. Shuttle service to the Waterfront runs regularly from alongside the Inn. For self-drive clients we can have your car delivered here.

 
Hazyview Inn

Only a short drive from the renowned Kruger National Park and 7 km from the town of Hazyview, this Inn provides the ideal base from which to explore both the Kruger Park and other scenic attractions in the area, including Pilgrim’s Rest, Blyde River Canyon, etc. The Inn itself is spectacularly constructed on stilts, overlooking the Sabie River and is situated literally within the forest canopy. Rooms are well-appointed and have two rooms to a bath room. Selfdrive clients will enjoy luxury suites. A swimming pool, bar and lounge are provided for guests’ comfort. A self-guided nature trail will take you to bird hides from where a variety of birds and other wildlife can be viewed. The excellent forest walks and exciting tube rides down the river are not to be missed.

Situated in the sand forest, on a small private reserve overlooking False Bay, near the sleepy town of Hluhluwe, this Inn is ideally positioned for access to the coast and Lake St Lucia, as well as the northern KwaZulu-Natal game reserves, including Hluhluwe, Umfolozi, Mkuzi and others. Our reserve itself offers a self-guided nature trail with guaranteed sitings of indigenous wildlife and a swimming pool for those who wish simply to relax. Self-drive clients will stay at the inn in luxury suites. Drifters tour groups use the camp which is beautifully situated in an Acacia forest.

Built literally on the beach, overlooking the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, this Inn provides a getaway for those who wish to enjoy the unspoilt beaches and game reserves of the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. Situated in Umdloti, only 20 minutes drive north of Durban, this Inn comprises of 10 sea-facing, twin-bedded rooms with private bathrooms. A short forest walk can be enjoyed, or further down the beach a tidal pool and lagoon can be explored. For those who wish to relax, a stunning patio and swimming pool overlook the ocean.

Drakensberg Inn
A National Heritage Site, this 1000 hectare indigenous farm has to be seen to be believed. Accessible only by 4x4 or transport provided, this mountain lodge is situated at an elevation of 1800 meters above sea level and is shadowed by the greater Drakensberg peaks on the property. The closest village is Bergville, some 50km away. Home to a colony of the rare Cape Vulture and many other indigenous species including Eland, as well as lush indigenous forests, Bushmen paintings and dramatic waterfalls, the reserve is fantastic for hiking and exploring. Accommodation is in seven Canadian styled log cabins, each comprising of two twin-bedded bedrooms sharing a bathroom. Self-drive clients enjoy a bathroom en-suite. Each room has a fireplace. A main communal cabin for eating and a cosy bar for socializing overlooks the Royal Natal National Park’s famous Amphitheatre. Activities include hiking, horse riding, swimming and fishing.

Situated 30 km from Graaff-Reinet, not far from the Valley of Desolation in the dry, semi-desert Karoo, this remote Inn provides wonderful opportunities to explore the unique fauna and flora that this area has to offer. This property has been painstakingly rehabilitated and now offers one of the most interesting and diverse nature reserves in the region. Game on the property includes the rare Cape Mountain Zebra, Black Wildebeest and beautiful Bontebok. Accommodation is in comfortable chalets crafted from local stone, each with its own fireplace, bathroom and unbelievable desert vista. A communal living area has been created within the original farmhouse, which dates back to the early settlers. Game drives on the property are available on request.

Situated on the outskirts of “Africa’s adventure capital”, this Inn is the ideal place to spend your holiday, or to relax after one of our safaris. Victoria Falls has much to offer, from the world’s best white-water rafting to one of the highest bungi jumps at 111m. For the less active, the surrounding game parks are hard to beat, as are the river cruises and aircraft flips over the Falls. The Drifters Inn is well located, overlooking a wilderness area, and within easy walking distance of all activities. Accommodation is in twin rooms, some sharing bathrooms, and breakfast is included. For other meals, a choice of nearby restaurants is available. A swimming pool, garden bar, T.V. lounge, and laundry facility are provided for guests’ convenience.

The bustling town of Swakopmund provides the ideal holiday destination for the adventure seeker; numerous excursions including sand boarding, quad biking, parasailing, skydiving, desert safaris and fishing are all on offer. For those who simply wish to relax, the beaches, restaurants, curio markets and coffee shops provide a welcome alternative. The Swakopmund Innis centrally located, well appointed, and ideally situated for exploring the area.

This camp is situated 30 kilometres east of Maun on the banks of the seasonal Boteti river. We offer an exclusive, quiet, uncrowded, beautiful, treed site for those who wish to stay in the vicinity of Maun. Our ablutions are first class and all facilities are serviced by our own clean, on-site borehole. A main social boma with bar and swimming pool is available and meals may be arranged on request. This camp is ideal as a base camp for those adventurous individuals who wish to explore the Okavango Delta, Moremi, Savuti and Chobe National Parks, as well as the central Kalahari and Makgadikgadi areas.

Situated in the 30 000-hectare privately-owned Balule Nature Reserve, alongside the Kruger National Park, the Drifters Game Lodge is isolated and intensely close to the magic of Africa. Your expert ranger will teach you about the habits of the Lion and the Rhinoceros, and how to identify the ferocious little Antlion and the Giant Rhinoceros Beetle. For the more adventurous we encourage game walks under the guidance of an armed ranger or you may choose one of our open-vehicle drives. .... more
